How we Think About Today While Protecting Tomorrow

Our aim at Broadhembury is to provide visitors with the best possible location in which to enjoy their leisure time, without damaging or threatening the environment.

Our policy is that of hands on, constantly vigilant, strategies covering all of our business activities. We do not just pay lip service to the various 'green organisations' that will praise and grade. We haven't joined expensive schemes – which invariably result in the use of even more resources. We don't want that, we just want to know that we are able to run a small business with as little environmental impact as possible. We go about both the day to day running, and the long term planning of our business always looking for ways to manage resources and minimise or re-cycle waste. We give thought to the bigger affect our actions may have.

We have made the usual changes, and now use low wattage light bulbs, the most water economical plumbing systems, rain water harvesting, low chemical cleaning products and (when possible) re-cycled paper. Our re-cycling points are constantly developing as we discover more uses for pre-used materials.

Our heating systems are kept up to date, fully serviced and are the most economical energy rating available. We have looked at solar panels for our existing buildings, but decided that fuel efficient boilers coupled with maximum insulation was a better plan.

flower1We are very proud of all the environmentally efficient resources we have incorporated into our newest facility building (located in the adult's meadows area of the Park). The list includes electricity solar panels (which are supplying electricity for the building and also back to the national grid), hot water solar panels, a rainwater harvesting system for all waste water needs, under floor heating, air-recycling and low wattage lighting.

Although we realise that Tourism can have a negative impact on the environment, we also feel we are in a position to do something about this. Everyone likes to travel; our holidays are one of the most important parts of our lives. However, it is not necessary to journey miles to have a relaxing break, short holiday or weekend away. We want to encourage people to look at what´s available nearby before joining the traffic jams and hassle of a long journey, especially with children.
